The wet season officially begins each year at the start of November and finishes at the end of April - although the weather gods never follows any strict timeline! Also known as the "green season" or "rainy season" this time of year is often a favourite with the locals as the temperature's warm, the fishing's good, there are less tourists and it's when the impressive lightning storms roll in.
In contrast to the dry season when rain is scarce, the wet season sees the majority of Darwin's 1700mm average rainfall occur, often in heavy, short bursts which cool and rejuvenate the land and its creatures.
The wet season has a lot to offer and if you don't mind a bit of humidity it can be a really rewarding time to experience the Top End. In addition to the lighting storms and the great fishing the waterfalls of Kakadu and Litchfield are at their most spectacular, the wildflowers are in bloom and wildlife is abundant.
Throughout the wet season Venture North offer customised private northern territory charter tours as well as fishing and mud crabbing tours on request. As the weather differs greatly from the beginning to the end of the wet season have a chat with Venture North before organising dates to get the most out of your wet season adventure!
